The Touch of the Master's Hand

Twas battered and scarred, and the auctioneer
thought it scarcely worth his while to waste much time on the old violin,
but held it up with a smile; "What am I bidden, good folks," he cried,
"Who'll start the bidding for me?" "A dollar, a dollar"; then two!" "Only
two? Two dollars, and who'll make it three? Three dollars, once; three
dollars twice; going for three.." But no, from the room, far back, a
gray-haired man came forward and picked up the bow; Then, wiping the dust
from the old violin, and tightening the loose strings, he played a melody
pure and sweet as caroling angel sings.

The music ceased, and the auctioneer, with a voice that was quiet and low,
said; "What am I bid for the old violin?" And he held it up with the bow.
A thousand dollars, and who'll make it two? Two thousand! And who'll make
it three? Three thousand, once, three thousand, twice, and going and
gone," said he. The people cheered, but some of them cried, "We do not
quite understnad what changed its worth." Swift came the reply: "The touch
of a master's hand."

And many a man with life out of tune, and battered and scarred with sin,
Is auctioned cheap to the thoughtless crowd, much like the old violin, A
"mess of pottage," a glass of wine; a game - and he travels on. "He is
going" once, and "going twice, He's going and almost gone." But the Master
comes, and the foolish crowd never can quite understand the worth of a soul
and the change that's wrought by the touch of the Master's hand.

Fwd: Gems From My Reading - 4743

We love him, because he first loved us. 1 John 4:19

"Be of good cheer."

"Marvel not that I said unto thee, ye must be born again."
(John 3:7)

No more certain it is that it is something outside the thermometer
that produces a change in the thermometer,
than it is something outside the soul of man that produces a moral change upon him.
That he must be susceptible to that change, that he must be a party to it, goes without saying;
But that neither his aptitude not his will can produce it, is equally certain.
Growth is not voluntary, it takes place, it happens, it is wrought upon matter,
So here, "Ye must be born again" - we cannot born ourselves.
"Be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed."
We are subjects to a transforming influence,
We do not transform ourselves.
(A Thought for Every Day - Henry Drummond)

All may come, (Rev.22: 17)
But none will; (John 3: 23)
Some shall come,
on account of the
sovereign power of God
acting to draw them.(Jn.6: 24)

All may come,
None will,
Some shall.

"Be of good cheer."

"I am the the way, the truth, and the life, no man cometh unto the Father but by Me."
(John 14:6)

His Way

God bade me go  when I would stay
('Twas cool within the wood);
I did not know the reason why.
I heard a boulder crashing by
Across the pathway where I stood.

He bade me stay when I would go;
"Thy will be done," I said.
They found one day at early dawn,
Across the way I would have gone.
A serpent with a mangled head.

No more I ask the reason why,
Although I may not see
The path ahead, His way I go;
For though I know not, He doth know,
And He will choose safe paths for me.

Our Springs are all in Thee

Our Springs Are All in Thee
From:Things New and Old
 – Things New and Old: Volume 17

As pilgrims and as strangers

We tread the desert way,

In conscious weakness, leaning

On God, our strength and stay.

Though ofttimes long and dreary

The way may seem to be, Yet, Lord,

Thy strength and love is ours,

And we can joy in Thee.

Though everything should fail us,

Still we can count on Thee;

Thou art the ever faithful One, -

Our springs are all in Thee.

'Tis thus in Thee confiding

We tread the desert way,

Proving Thy love and faithfulness

So constant day by day.

The wilderness is barren, -

A place where drought abides;

But our resources are in Thee,

Our need Thy love supplies.

We know Thou wilt sustain us

Until the journey's o'er,

Then we shall meet with

Thee above And praise

Thee evermore.
